Chapter 6 - The House They Thought Was TheirsPriscilla quickly approached the stage. "Marisol, that's enough. Whatever has happened, we're still family."

I met her eyes. "Were we family three hours ago?"

She stopped moving. "Of course we were."

"Then why was I cleaning your kitchen while my husband brought another woman to this gala?"

Her expression hardened. "We welcomed you into this family."

I nodded slowly. "And I provided this family with the house where you reminded me almost every week that I supposedly didn't belong."

The ballroom fell silent. Garrison stared at me.

I explained that the Charleston estate belonged to a Corbin property subsidiary. The financial assistance Priscilla had received had come through me. The funding that supported Delphine's boutique had come through me. Aldric's medical assistance had been provided through a foundation under my authority. Most importantly, the financing that repeatedly kept Bellamy Urban Partners operating had come from investment vehicles ultimately controlled by me.

Delphine immediately glanced down at her phone. Her livestream had attracted enormous attention. There was no realistic way to undo what had already been broadcast.

Then Garrison did something I never anticipated. He walked toward me and lowered himself to his knees.

"Marisol, I was wrong."

I looked down at him. "About what?"

His expression filled with desperation. "Everything. I lost sight of who I was. But I love you."

For a moment, I almost felt sympathy for him. Almost.

"You showed that love very differently when you believed I had nothing."

"Remember how we started. Remember us."

My voice became quieter. "I have spent years remembering how we started. That is exactly why I remained longer than I should have."

Preston handed him a folder. Inside were divorce documents. There was also a board resolution removing Garrison from his executive responsibilities while the investigation was completed. Through several investment entities, Corbin Capital held the majority voting interest in Bellamy Urban Partners.

Garrison stared at the documents. "You're taking my company."

I shook my head. "No. Your own choices are taking it away from you."
