Chapter 4 - What I Heard in the RestroomI locked myself in a stall and sat on the closed toilet lid. I was angry — at Camille, at myself for still letting her comments land, and a little at Simon too. Because years of telling me to just ignore his mother had apparently taught her she could say anything and still be welcomed back into our lives afterward.

Then the restroom door opened. Two women walked in, mid-conversation.
"Did yours fit?"
"Eventually."
"What does that mean?"
"Camille had the boutique alter the sleeves."
I stopped breathing.
"Mine too," the other woman laughed, uncomfortable. "She said my arms don't photograph well."
"You're joking."
"I wish I was."
Their voices faded as they left. I sat there staring at the stall door. My dress wasn't an isolated incident. Camille hadn't just bought me something inappropriate. She'd been redesigning women — changing sizes, changing sleeves, changing how she'd decided we should look.

Then I heard her scream from somewhere outside. "Those are mine!"
I rushed out of the restroom.
