Chapter 3 - Dead to This FamilyBy noon, my phone was exploding with frantic calls from my parents, Reginald and Corinne.
When I finally answered, my mother was hysterical. "Priya, how could you be so cruel and heartless?" she shrieked through the speaker. "Bianca is just a sweet, naive girl who made a romantic mistake! Desmond tricked her into that Vegas trip! They are sitting in orange jumpsuits in a maximum-security county jail with bail set at half a million dollars each! Desmond's lawyer says you froze all the money and reported the jewelry stolen! Wire the bail money immediately, or Bianca's entire future will be permanently destroyed!"
I listened to her frantic screaming without saying a word, feeling an unexpected sense of closure.
"Mom," I said coldly, "when Bianca stole my husband and bragged about taking everything I built, you didn't call to ask if I was okay. When Desmond emptied my safe and sped across state lines, he made a conscious choice to commit federal crimes. They are grown adults, and they can face the exact consequences they created."

"If you don't bail out your sister, you are dead to this family!" my father shouted in the background, taking over the line.
"Then consider me dead," I replied, ending the call and permanently blocking both of their numbers.
