Chapter 6 - What I Received InsteadSix months later, Grandma's house was placed under supervised trust management. Wesley had to move out. My parents were allowed to remain there, but they could no longer treat the property like an unlimited source of money. They couldn't sell it. They couldn't keep borrowing against it. And they couldn't quietly dispose of Grandma's belongings.

As for me? I stopped sending money. I stopped defending myself. I stopped explaining my decisions to relatives who had never bothered asking for my side of the story.

Then, on Grandma Rosalind's birthday, something arrived at my house.

Her piano.

I sat down at the keys and played the only song she had ever taught me. Halfway through, my phone rang.

Mom.

I let it ring.

A few minutes later: Dad.

I let that call disappear too.

They had removed me from their will because they believed I already had enough.

Maybe they were right.

Because in the end, I didn't need their house. Their savings. Their jewelry. Or their approval.

I received the one thing they had spent years making impossible for me to have.
