Chapter 4 - Look UpAt 11:45 that night, the sky turned to ink and a fierce squall began rocking the yacht hard enough to rattle the glasses in the cabinet.

Callum came into the bedroom without a word and pulled me out of bed. I let myself go completely limp, dragging my feet across the floor, slurring nonsense as he wrapped an arm around my waist and guided me out onto the rain-slicked aft deck, one careful step at a time.

Roderick and Vivienne were already waiting near the stern railing, wrapped in dark raincoats, their eyes gleaming with something cold and hungry in the storm light.

"Is she under?" Vivienne hissed over the wind.

"She can barely hold her head up." Callum's voice had shed every trace of gentleness. The loving husband was gone completely, replaced by something I didn't recognize at all. He dragged me toward the edge, lifting my feet toward the lower railing. "Goodbye, Juliet. Thanks for the three hundred million."

"Wait," I whispered, soft as breath.

Callum paused, a cruel little smile touching his mouth. "What was that, sweetheart? Want to say something before you go?"

I straightened my spine. I locked my knees. I looked him dead in the eye with total, icy sobriety.

"I said — look up."

Before Callum could process a single word of it, a deafening roar tore through the storm. Four blinding spotlights lit up the deck from above as a massive tactical helicopter dropped into a hover directly over the yacht. At the same instant, three high-speed Coast Guard interceptor boats emerged out of the darkness, surrounding us, sirens screaming across the black water.

Armed tactical officers rappelled down onto the wet teak deck, weapons raised.

"COAST GUARD! NOBODY MOVE! GET DOWN NOW!"

Callum shrieked, stumbling backward and dropping me straight onto the floorboards. Roderick tried to bolt toward the cabin door; two officers tackled him mid-stride and slammed him face-first into the wet wood. Vivienne dropped to her knees, sobbing hysterically, both hands raised in the air.

Marcus unclipped from his harness and stepped onto the deck beside me, draping a heavy, warm blanket around my shoulders and pressing a secure tablet into my hands.

"Your parents are completely safe," he reported, calm and clean. "The hitmen waiting up in the mountains were arrested twenty minutes ago."

I stood in the pouring rain and watched officers force Callum down onto his knees, steel cuffs snapping shut around his wrists.

He looked up at me, face pale with pure, pathetic shock. "Juliet — please. It was a mistake. My father forced me into this. I love you!"

I reached into my robe pocket, pulled out the burner phone, and hit play. His own hollow laugh rang out clear across the ship's deck speakers.

"Just one gentle push. The ocean takes care of the rest... three hundred million disappears straight into my Swiss accounts."

Callum's jaw dropped open. He went completely silent, eyes wide with a horror that had nowhere left to hide.

"You thought you were marrying a helpless heiress," I said, stepping closer as officers hauled him up onto his feet. "You forgot exactly whose daughter I am."

Callum, Roderick, and Vivienne were dragged off my father's yacht in chains that night, facing federal charges of attempted murder, conspiracy, and grand larceny — enough to guarantee every one of them spent the rest of their natural lives behind bars.

I stood at the railing and watched the storm clouds finally break apart, revealing a clear, star-scattered sky over black water.

They'd tried to make the sea my grave. Instead, it became the exact place I washed every one of them out of my life for good.
