Chapter 6 - Everything on the TableMauricio immediately stepped in. "Emiliano, you're confused."

"Sit down." Something in my voice stopped him.
I opened Esteban's first folder. "I know about your shell companies. I know about your debts. I know about the people you borrowed money from. And I know you tried to transfer 620 million pesos to the Cayman Islands."
Mauricio took a step backward. "I have no idea what you're talking about."
"The transfer has been frozen since the morning of Renata's funeral."
Camila turned toward him. "Frozen?"
For the first time, genuine fear appeared on Mauricio's face.
Then I spread the photographs from Florida across the table. "I also know about your house near Orlando."
Camila picked up one of the photos. Her husband was holding a small child while another woman had her arms around him. "Who is she?"
Mauricio said nothing.
"Who is that child?"
Still nothing. Camila began trembling. "Mauricio, tell me this isn't true."
For one brief second, she looked like a betrayed wife. But I refused to let that erase what she had done. "Don't pretend you're innocent now," I told her. "You helped steal from your own mother."
She looked at me. I placed several still images from Renata's security footage on the table. In one, Camila stood beside her mother's bed. In another, she held Renata's hand. In the last, she was pressing her unconscious mother's thumb onto an ink pad.
Camila dropped the photo. "Dad…"
My voice broke for the first time. "I watched you use your mother's hand when she couldn't even open her eyes." She started crying. "I watched you take her fingerprint so you could authorize a theft. Then you went to her funeral wearing black, hugged grieving people, and pretended you were heartbroken."
"Mauricio told me the money belonged to us," she sobbed. "He said Mom had hidden it and you would keep everything."
"Your mother did not owe you 620 million pesos."
"I just—"
"No." I looked straight at her. "You made a choice."
Mauricio slammed his fist onto the table. "That's enough! We're family. We can fix this."
I turned toward him. "You intended to take the money and disappear with another woman. You weren't trying to save this family."
Camila stared at him. "You were going to leave me?"
Mauricio finally lost control. "Be quiet!"
"I did all of this for us!"
I looked at Camila. "No. You did it because you always wanted your father's life without doing the work that built it."
She went silent. But I still had one more thing. I picked up the medical paperwork. "Would you also like to explain Dr. Solaris?"
Camila stopped crying. The room became completely silent.
"Or should we talk about what you planned to put in my dinner?"
Mauricio's eyes moved toward my untouched plate. That small movement told me everything.
"The Prosecutor's Office already has the messages," I said. "They have the payments to the doctor. They have the prescription. They have the draft medical report you planned to use to declare me incompetent." I pointed toward my plate. "And they will be analyzing that food."
Camila shook her head. "I wasn't going to hurt you."
"You planned to drug me."
"Only so you could rest."
"You planned to have me committed."
"It was temporary."
"You wanted control over everything."
Then she said the one sentence that destroyed whatever defense she still had.
"We didn't have another choice! Mauricio owed too much money!"

The moment the words left her mouth, she covered her lips. Mauricio glared at her.
I said nothing. I didn't need to. A recorder had been running beneath the counter. Two federal agents were listening from a vehicle outside.
