Chapter 5 - The Moment He Couldn't Hide Anymore

The next afternoon, Owen and I were near the hotel pool when Nathaniel and Paige appeared again. I was already reaching for our things to leave when he suddenly stopped walking, hand flying to his chest.
He sat down hard, dizzy, disoriented. Guests nearby started calling for hotel staff.
Whatever I felt about him in that moment, I couldn't just stand there and watch someone struggling. I stepped closer and told a staff member to get the hotel's medical team immediately.
Nathaniel looked up. My sunglasses had slipped down my nose.
For the first time in nearly three years, our eyes met directly.
His face went white as paper. "Camille?"
Owen froze behind me.
Nathaniel's gaze moved past me and landed on him. Something in his expression completely fell apart.
"Miles—" He caught himself. "Owen."
My son stared at the father he'd spent years quietly grieving. "...Dad?"
I put both hands gently on his shoulders. "Come with me."
Nathaniel struggled to stand. "Camille, please."
May you like
I looked straight at him. "Not here."
For once — for the first time in years, maybe — he actually listened to me.
