A 24-Year-Old Woman Fled After Being Forced Into a Deal… But the Man Who Saved Her Was Hiding a Terrifying Secret

The 24-year-old woman was forced by her stepmother to get into bed with one of her business partners, and she fled in desperation to a stranger's car… but that moment of fate would change her life forever…
— "Has anyone seen that girl?"
— "No, ma'am. I think she ran toward that path."

That night, the rain didn't just fall.
It plummeted as if it wanted to crush the entire road.

Elena Vargas staggered out from the dirt path with bare feet, her torn dress clinging to her body and a dark bruise stinging on her cheek. She wasn't running toward safety. She was running because, behind her, the terror she had just left in that mansion was still alive.

She looked over her shoulder and saw a shadow advancing through the downpour. Her chest tightened. Sobs scraped her throat. Then, headlights appeared.

A black car emerged from the darkness at high speed.
Elena stood in the middle of the road and raised her hands.
— "Please… stop…"

The brakes screeched. The car skidded on the wet asphalt and stopped inches away from her. Trembling, Elena leaned over the passenger window and banged on the glass with both palms.
— "Help me… I beg you… don't leave me here…"

Inside the car, Matthew Carranza looked up. He was a man accustomed to commanding, to distrusting, to not letting chaos enter his life. But the drenched girl in front of him didn't look like a trap. She looked like someone fleeing from something worse than the storm.

And then, the back door opened.

Elena climbed in without looking back, a shivering wreck. The warm luxury of the interior felt foreign, almost cruel. The driver pulled away. Only when the car distanced itself did she dare to breathe.
— "They can't find me," she whispered, hugging herself. "If they take me back, she's going to destroy me."

Matthew didn't ask questions immediately. He took off his coat and draped it over her shoulders. Upon touching her, he felt she was ice-cold.
— "Who?"

Elena closed her eyes. Her voice came out broken.
— "My stepmother… she tried to hand me over to an old man tonight to close a deal. When I refused, she hit me. She locked him in my room… and I escaped through the bathroom window."

The silence inside the car became unbearable.
Matthew clenched his jaw. Outside, a flash of lightning illuminated the road. In the side mirror, the driver managed to see another SUV pulling out from the dirt path, as if it were searching for them.

Elena saw it too.
And just when she thought she was finally safe, Matthew said something that turned her blood even colder:
— "Get down. I don't think the storm is the only thing coming after us…"

Elena’s breath hitched.

The SUV behind them didn’t slow down.

It was chasing them.

— “They’re coming…” she whispered, her voice shaking. “They’re coming for me…”

— “Stay down,” Matthew said, his tone no longer calm—it was sharp, controlled, dangerous.

The driver glanced at the rearview mirror.
— “Sir, they’re accelerating.”

Matthew’s eyes darkened.
— “Take the next turn. Lights off.”

— “But sir—”

— “Now.”

The car swerved violently onto a narrow, muddy road. The headlights went out, plunging them into darkness. Only the sound of rain hammering the roof remained… and the distant roar of the SUV.

For a few seconds…

Nothing.

Then—

The SUV sped past the road they had taken.

Gone.

The driver exhaled in relief.
— “We lost them.”

Elena slowly lifted her head, her entire body trembling.
— “I… I’m safe…?”

No one answered.

A strange silence filled the car.

Elena turned toward Matthew.

He was already looking at her.

Not with concern.

With something else.

Something that made her stomach twist.

— “What… what is it?” she asked, barely able to speak.

Matthew leaned back slightly, studying her face—the bruise, the fear, the desperation.

— “You said your stepmother tried to sell you,” he said quietly.

Elena nodded, hugging herself tighter.
— “Yes… to an old man… I don’t even know who he is…”

Lightning flashed.

For a split second, Matthew’s face was illuminated.

Cold. Unreadable.

— “That’s where you’re wrong.”

Elena froze.

— “What…?”

Matthew’s lips curved into the faintest smile.

— “You do know him.”

Her heart stopped.

The rain outside grew louder, almost deafening.

— “Because,” he continued slowly, “I’m the one she made the deal with.”

Silence.

Absolute silence.

Elena’s blood ran cold.

Her fingers tightened around his coat as if it suddenly burned her skin.

— “No…” she whispered, shaking her head. “No… that’s not possible…”

The driver said nothing.

Did nothing.

As if this was normal.

As if he already knew.

— “You were never supposed to run,” Matthew added, his voice calm… too calm. “That created… complications.”

Tears filled Elena’s eyes.
— “Then why… why did you stop? Why did you let me in?”

Matthew didn’t answer immediately.

He looked out the window, watching the rain slide across the glass.

Then back at her.

— “Because,” he said, “when I saw you standing there… you didn’t look like a transaction.”

A pause.

— “You looked like someone who had already lost everything.”

Elena’s breathing slowed… just slightly.

Confusion replaced fear for a moment.

— “So what now…?” she asked.

Matthew leaned forward, resting his elbows on his knees.

The car began to move again, slowly, carefully, deeper into the darkness.

— “Now?” he repeated.

Another flash of lightning.

— “Now I decide whether I return you…”

Elena’s body tensed.

— “…or keep you.”

Her eyes widened.

— “Keep… me?”

Matthew’s gaze softened—but only a little.

— “Not the way they intended,” he said. “I don’t buy people.”

A beat.

— “But I do protect what becomes mine.”

The words hung in the air.

Heavy.

Unclear.

Dangerous.

Behind them, far in the distance, faint headlights reappeared.

They were still searching.

Elena looked at him—this man who was both her worst nightmare… and possibly her only chance to survive.

— “Why would you help me?” she asked, her voice trembling.

Matthew held her gaze.

Long enough to make her heart pound again.

— “Because,” he said quietly, “someone needs to teach them…”

His expression hardened.

— “…that you’re not for sale.”

The car disappeared into the storm.

And for the first time that night…

Elena didn’t know if she had escaped her fate—

Or stepped into a new one.

May you like

But one thing was certain.

The people chasing her had just made a very dangerous enemy.
